A few thoughts about today’s readings

I’m preaching on the Transfiguration this weekend, and I was studying the scriptures I came to notice that neither John nor Peter gives a full description of the transfiguration. Peter mentions it in his letter, but it is nowhere to be found in the Gospel of John. The synoptic writers who didn’t experience the event are the ones to give the most detail about the transfiguration. I don’t doubt that Peter, James, and John told them about it, but we kinda hear about this story from a third party source.

This could be nothing, but then I thought of the vision in Revelation. I’m giving my Bible study on this book and in the first chapter of the book of Revelation we see the Son of Man, who I know is Jesus himself, looking a lot like Jesus who is transfigured on the mountain top. Speculating a little bit, I wonder if John saw the same thing in his vision that he saw on the mountaintop, with a few additional features. (The sword, lampstands, etc.) Just kinda thinking out loud a little bit.

I recorded my homily this weekend be on the lookout for it!
