This morning we heard of the end of the parables from Matthew 13. Jesus gives us this interesting saying at the end of all of these parables. “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” This reading reminds me of my scripture professor at the seminary he is an expert and looking at the old testament and applying it to the new. There are plenty of examples in my own life where knowing the Old Testament background really opens up the scriptures for me. The Old Testament isn’t something to throw out or ignore, it tells us so much more about the Scriptures and who Jesus truly was.
